Making a Difference

At Blue Coat Church of England School and Music College, we are proud to be a community that seeks to make a positive difference every day. Rooted in our CHRIST values, we are committed to helping every young person flourish, grow in confidence and understand the impact they can have on the world around them.

This work has been recognised nationally, with Blue Coat named as a finalist in the Pearson National Teaching Awards 2026. This recognition celebrates the dedication of our staff, students and wider school community, and reflects our shared commitment to excellence, inclusion and transformation.

Textile Trailblazers

The Trailblazer Programme gave A Level students the opportunity to explore the textiles and fashion industry through practical workshops, creative challenges and industry engagement. Students developed skills in fashion sketching, weaving and sewing, while gaining valuable insight into professional creative practice and future career pathways.

Throughout the programme, students received feedback from industry professionals and took part in a range of hands on activities, including designing and creating a fabric doll inspired by their own work. The experience concluded with an awards ceremony celebrating students’ creativity, progress and achievements.

Our impact

This page will continue to grow as we share the stories, achievements and voices of those who are helping Blue Coat make a difference. From student leadership and community projects to award recognition, testimonials and video stories, we are proud to celebrate the people and moments that show Blue Coat at its very best.

Testimonials

“On behalf of my child and myself, I would like to express a great deal of gratitude to the staff members at Blue Coat, especially those who worked in the Hub. The care and support they provided during my child’s time at Blue Coat went above and beyond.

When my child underwent major surgery, the Hub became essential to their recovery. Staff supported with exercises, rest times and day to day care as recommended by the medical team. Having the Hub and its staff made it much easier to arrange personalised support and ensured a truly holistic approach.

Every time I had a concern or needed adjustments to my child’s care, staff worked with me to make things easier and for that I will always be grateful.

Today, my child is striving to complete an undergraduate degree at university and so much of this has been possible because of the support received from the staff in the Hub and Blue Coat as a whole.”

Parent

"From the early development of the Church of England Foundation for Educational Leadership in 2018 to the present day, there are a small number of Church of England schools who have embodied our vision and partnered with us for the transformation of the local, regional and national education system. Bluecoat has been one of these schools – pioneering leadership development, Chaplaincy work, Growing Faith, and incredible work in developing young leaders. It is a key school in our National Secondary Leadership Network and the impact of its leadership ripples across the whole country."

Andy Wolfe, Interim CEO & Chief Education Officer, National Society for Education

“Our service works with some of the hardest to place students in the city, including those moving schools through the Fair Access Process and Supported Transfers.

Blue Coat always welcomes students with open arms, regardless of their previous difficulties. From the very first day, students are given a genuine fresh start and a real sense of belonging.

The excellent pastoral and leadership teams work tirelessly to make placements successful and create a supportive environment for students, families and professionals alike.

If I had to describe my experience of working with Blue Coat, I would use the words welcoming, inclusive, non judgemental, caring and committed to helping students succeed.”

Education Skills Officer, Coventry City Council

“As the local Teaching School Hub, we have worked closely with Blue Coat School and Inspire MAT since our designation by the DfE in 2021.

Every interaction with colleagues at the school has been characterised not only by professionalism, but by a deep passion to make a difference for the children and communities they serve.

There are many examples of this commitment, including the celebration of Early Career Teachers, collaboration on teacher training and providing leadership and professional development opportunities across the wider education community.

It is a privilege to work alongside such passionate, dedicated and committed professionals who make a difference every day in their school and beyond.”

Director, Coventry and Central Warwickshire Teaching School Hub

“Blue Coat School has a strong history of collaborating to support multilingual learners, particularly students from sanctuary seeking backgrounds and those new to English.

The school has shared good practice across the city, supported induction programmes for new arrivals and created leadership opportunities for students through initiatives such as the Young Ambassador Programme.

Blue Coat has also demonstrated an exceptional commitment to becoming a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all learners. Staff and students actively celebrate diversity, support refugee communities and promote understanding through curriculum opportunities, events and charitable initiatives.

The school’s commitment to inclusion and student voice is evident throughout all aspects of school life.”

EMAS Specialist Teachers, Coventry City Council

“Blue Coat School demonstrates an unwavering commitment to supporting students and families through a culture rooted in collaboration, inclusivity and care.

Staff consistently work to identify and remove barriers facing young people, while building strong partnerships with families and external agencies to ensure students receive the support they need.

What sets Blue Coat apart is the way staff go above and beyond. Their dedication, compassion and willingness to take extra steps ensures no student is left behind.

Our partnership continues to create meaningful change for students, families and the wider community.”

Local Authority Attendance Officer, Children Absent from Education Team, Coventry City Council

“Over the past six years, I have supported Students in Care and Previously in Care who attend Blue Coat School. During this time, the school has undertaken a significant journey to develop and embed trauma informed and attachment aware practice.

All staff have engaged in training relating to trauma and attachment and have thoughtfully adapted this knowledge to align with the school’s culture and ethos. I have observed a clear and positive shift towards a community where relationships are prioritised and staff actively seek to understand and respond to the individual needs of each learner.

The school remains committed to continual development and improving educational outcomes for all students.”

Advisory Teacher, Virtual School, Coventry City Council

“The support of colleagues at Blue Coat School has been instrumental in securing strong outcomes for ITT trainees across Coventry and the West Midlands.

The school continues to provide supportive and impactful training environments, with trainees benefiting greatly from the expertise and guidance of staff across the school.

Through this partnership, Blue Coat is actively invested in creating a sustainable teaching talent pipeline for the region and we are tremendously grateful.”

Head of Partnerships, National Institute of Teaching

“We would like to extend our deepest thanks for the generous donations of toys and clothing this Christmas. Because of this kindness, over 40 families were supported, ensuring children received gifts to open on Christmas morning.

For many families, this would not have been possible without the support provided. The compassion shown brought joy, hope and a sense of celebration to homes that may otherwise have faced a very difficult Christmas.

The impact of this generosity went far beyond the gifts themselves and reminded families that they are seen, valued and cared for by their community.”
